“National Opening Meeting” of the Education for All in Times of Crisis I&II and Education Infrastructure for Resilience Projects executed by the Ministry of National Education Construction and Real Estate Department with the European Union support was conducted in Ankara on 27 September 2017.
Undersecretary Doç.Dr. Yusuf TEKİN, Mr.Ercan Demirci, one of the Deputy Undersecretary, Mr. Fatih Özer, AFAD Vice President, particularly Christian BERGER, Ambassador of the Delegation of European Union to Turkey, German Development Bank, World Bank, Embassies and Ministries conducting activities concerning to the Syrians Under Temporary Protection ensured keen participation in the opening meeting.
During the meeting, opening of the exhibition composing models and visuals of the school constructed under the projects and pictures drawn by the Syrian living in the Temporary Education Center in Gaziantep was made.
“Our Project-Based Cooperation Plays a Facilitating Role in Implementation”
Mr. Özcan Duman, Head of the Construction and Real Estate Department delivered the welcome speech during the meeting and mentioned that the project-based cooperation environment established by the International Institutions, Ministry of National Education and AFAD have a facilitating effect on the implementation and site processes. Mr. Duman told that the capacity of the institutions has successfully been reflected on the project and added that the projects have reached to various targets extending from the site selection to production of the prefabricated schools in practice and construction of the educational facilities will be constructed within the prescribed time.
Mr. Özcan Duman emphasized the contributions of the projects in the Syrian refugee crisis and effects on people on site along with the structural and technical features. He ended his speech by underlining that they have new objectives to be reached after the national opening meeting.
The Undersecretary Doç. Dr. Yusuf TEKİN who delivered opening speech of the meeting expressed that there are approx. 1million school-aged Syrian children in Turkey. Mr. Tekin told that “we could provide to approx. 600.000 of the school-aged Syrian children education which is one of the fundamental rights and liberties. I am sorry to say that we should not proud of this for the sake of humanity. We are responsible to provide education for all of them”.
Mr. Tekin assessed that “We could only guarantee to prevent the reemergence of the crisis if we could teach the common value to 1 million children at school-aged, right of act by their own will, respect to the view of others and living together. The only way to prevent such crisis radically is to provide education to each child in a good environment. I wish our efforts will be carried on increasingly. We protect the right of children in the name of human kindness so we should not proud of this.
“An Additional Capacity with 110.000 Student in Total in 17 Provinces”
Education for All in Times of Crisis I&II and Education Infrastructure for Resilience Projects have budget in the amount of 315 Million Euro in total. 155 educational facilities composing of 60 prefabricated (steel construction) and 95 reinforced concrete will be constructed in 17 implementation provinces in total. An additional capacity with 110.000 students in approx. 3700 classrooms will be established with these educational facilities. The educational facilities will provide service to children both from Syrians Under Temporary Protection and local community. The projects are executed under MoNE Construction and Real Estate Department and site works are currently being carried on.
